Billie Jean King - Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine's Living Tennis Legend She’s the slammin’ tennis pro who took instruction from Long Beach’s public courts and used those lessons to change the world by defeating Bobby Riggs in the 1973 "Battle of the Sexes." Billie Jean King, the world’s most beloved tennis champion would have never picked up a racquet had it not been for an invitation from a friend and free instruction at the city park.
Annual Youth Fishing Derby! On November 22, kids up to 15 years of age will be able to fish with their own poles at El Dorado East Regional Park lake in Long Beach. (Anyone over 16 years of age is required to have a CA State Fishing License.) Volunteers and staff of the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation will be on hand to lend rods and reels, and to educate kids on proper fishing techniques and etiquette. Bait will be provided free of charge while supplies last.

Help Protect Our Parks! The Long Beach Park Watch Program involves the community in preventing crime and vandalism in our parks. Citizens can act as extra eyes and ears for Park Rangers and Police Officers in detecting activities that can diminish a safe, clean and enjoyable park environment.
